In November of 2013, we delivered $1,000.00 worth of gas cards to the Gift of Life Family House in Philadelphia. The cards will be distributed to families in need of help with ongoing travel expenses for medical care. The Family House is available to families traveling 35 miles or more to Transplant Hospitals in the Philadelphia area. It provides lodging, home cooked meals, transportation to the transplant hospitals and supportive services to the families who must travel to Philadelphia for transplant-related care. We are pleased to provide this additional support and wish to thank the Family House for the wonderful care given to families in need of a “Home Away From Home”.
Talia Giordano, the Family House Social Worker, was happy to report that the last distribution of gas cards helped 10 families. Of the 10 families, four children received successful organ transplants. These included 3 lung patients and 1 liver patient. The remaining 6 families were adult patients who were waiting or received a transplant while at the Family House. Special thanks to Talia for taking the time to evaluate the need among families and distribute the gas cards.
The Hankees wish to thank the many people who donate and /or participate in golf and social events that produce the funds to support these families. The event plan is always the same, join in, meet friends, have fun, help others.
